Items You Can Get Away with Buying Used

06/27/2016 by John Leave a Comment

There are certain things that should never be bought used, such as a mattress or underwear, but if you do not mind other items that have been in another household then shopping for used items can save you a load of cash and provide the same exact experience as if it were new.  While you are in the market for your next purchase, take a look a few items that you may not realize are perfectly acceptable to buy used.

Cars

Goes without saying, but new cars have an outrageous price tag and it is true, as soon as you drive it off the lot, the price is greatly reduced, so why bother getting a new vehicle when you can get an almost new one for a fraction of the price.  Sometimes dealerships can still lease newer models that were turned in early if you are worried about financing, but if you are into buying, you will save a ton of money each month.  Your slightly used car will still be cleaned up and could even have that new car smell to it to seal the deal.

Water and Land Toys

The same philosophy on why it is better to buy a used car compared to a new can be applied when it comes to buying boats, motorcycles, and Jet-Ski’s as well.  Virtually anything with an engine will depreciate over time, so why would you spend the big bucks on a brand new boat that you use a few months out of the year when you can buy a perfectly near-new for much less than the sticker price.  The extra savings you can use on gas and drinks for your guests that will not leave all summer.

Pets

It sounds weird to count a pet in “buying used” but what I mean is that there are plenty of animals at shelters that could use a great home instead of paying top dollar for a rare puppy breed.  Unless you are spending a few hundred on your pet from a local breeder, there is no reason to pay more when you can save an animal’s life at the local shelter for around $50.  I believe there are no bad dogs, only bad owners, so why not give your next best- friend a great life, and save your wallet for spoiling the new family member.
